After watching various foods fly across the cafeteria at Camp Callaway during Mary Kate and Ashley’s movie “It Takes Two” in 1995, I have secretly always wanted to take part in my own lunchtime tussle. Unfortunately, many years have gone by since first watching the scene and I have yet to hurl hot dogs at others in an open space (or closed for that matter). Even though so much time has passed, I’ve never stopped dreaming about the day I would get to recreate my favorite scene. With a little help from the foodjunky team and a lot of improvising, I was finally able to find a way to hit a target I’ve been aiming at the past 20 years.
A new kind of “Food Fight”
Our team decided to change the game when it comes to food fights. In our “Food Fight” show, we’ll take similar dishes from two different restaurants featured on our website. Rather than gathering a group and flinging perfectly delicious food across a room (all our restaurants’ dishes are not found anywhere near a summer camp cafeteria), we’ve elected to have a panel of judges do a taste test instead. Using predetermined criteria, in each episode the judges will decide which dish was better and declare one winner.
Episode One: C.K. Mediterranean Grill vs. Bucharest Grill
This time around we selected two esteemed Detroit restaurants focused on bringing authentic Middle Eastern meals to downtown. Watch below to find out how the battle between C.K. Mediterranean Grill and Bucharest Grill unfolded in our first episode, “Food Fight: Chicken Shawarma Showdown”. Who knew our panel of judges could get dirtier than Camp Callaway’s cafeteria?!
